Phenolic Compounds as Cross-Links of Plant Derived Polysaccharides

چکیده

Plant cell wall polysaccharides are partially cross-linked via phenolic compounds. As shown in the past, the most important phenolic compounds to cross-link plant cell-wall polysaccharides are ester-linked ferulic acid dimers, but p-coumarate dimers were also shown to be potential cross-linking compounds. Recently, ferulic acid dimers were identified and quantified in a range of cereal grains. The isolation of 8-O-4-dehydrodiferulic aciddi-arabinoside from maize bran shows that diferulic acids are able to form intermolecular cross-links between arabinoxylans. The more recently identified sinapic acid dehydrodimers and ferulic acid dehydrotrimers provide additional contributions to building up a strong network of plant cell wall polysaccharides.

Structural elucidation of new ferulic acid-containing phenolic dimers and trimers isolated from maize bran

Four new phenolic dimers and trimers that contain ferulic acid moieties were isolated from the alkaline hydrolyzate of insoluble maize bran fiber and their structures were established by 1D/2D NMR and mass spectrometry. The biological role of one dimer remains unclear whereas the dimeric vanillin-ferulic acid-cross-product probably represents an oxidative degradation product from the correspond...

The Effect of High Temperature Treatment on Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus Resistance and Certain Resistance-Related Chemicals in Bread Wheat

Background and Aims: To evaluate the effect of temperature on wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV) resistance phenotype, through total protein, phenol, and peroxidase activity in bread wheat, a factorial experiment was conducted using Adl-Cross (resistant) and Marvdasht (susceptible) cultivars. Materials and Methods: Results showed that incubation at 32C changed the gene expression for resistance ...

A review of phenolic antioxidants isolated from endophytic fungi

Oxidative stress caused by overproduction of free radicals or oxygenated radical species plays a major role in causing many diseases. The findings suggest the use of antioxidants as compounds to control the release of these radicals or directly prevent their formation. Therefore, antioxidants can be used as drugs to reduce or prevent oxidative stress. Herbal medicines are the basis of modern ph...
